HISTORY
Founded in 1963, the RSYC has graced the banks of the Sungai Klang for over 62 years and counting. Originally the Port Swettenham Yacht Club offered simple facilities to support yachting, fishing and a home to sea lovers from the Klang Valley and beyond In 1969 the club was officially registered with the government as a society, and further to this changed it’s name in 1972 to the Selangor Yacht club. The club grew and added facilities and activities (a new clubhouse in 1983 and increased dinghy, youth and keelboat racing). 1989 saw HRH the Sultan of Selangor bestow the Royal title to the club driving another name change to the Royal Selangor Yacht Club which it remains today. 1992 was an eventful year in which an upstream tanker fire devasted the clubhouse prompting the membership to collaborate on the redevelopment of the site and the construction of our current home designed by renowned Malaysian architect Hijjas Kasturi. Now in it’s 7th decade, the RSYC has had over 2500 members, and currently hosts a fleet of more than 100 vessels ( keelboats, fishing sampans and dinghies ) as well as a full calendar of marine based events and community engagement for children and less fortunate members of the community.
